Soham's NLSAT Study Plan — Rank 52 | CLAT Network
NLSAT Warzone · Free Resource

The plan of someone who already cracked it.

Soham cleared NLSAT with Rank 52 — and cracked NLU 3-Year LLB, IIT KGP, and MHCET in the same cycle. I sat with him topic by topic and documented everything. Use this exactly as-is.

RC is where NLSAT is hardest — and where ranks separate
NLSAT passages are longer and denser than CLAT or MHCET. Soham's approach was aggressive reading at speed, not slow comprehension. 2–3 articles a day with 20–25 questions is the floor. VSTAMP gives you the framework — only repetition builds the pace. Covering NLSAT RC well makes every other exam's English section feel easy.

NLSAT GK is a reading test built on awareness — not a quiz
GK in NLSAT comes inside comprehension passages. Soham's edge was that he already knew the background when the passage opened. The newspaper gives you the events; static GK gives you the context to process them fast. CUET PG, MHCET, and NLU-O lean more toward static GK — so strong static preparation serves every exam simultaneously.

Logical & Analytical Reasoning
10 topics · Highest weightage topics are mock-dependent — practice is the only strategy
# Topic & Soham's Tips Difficulty Approx Qs Resources
1 Seating ArrangementsLinear & CircularHighest weightage topic. Mock tests and practice tests are the primary method. This is where most marks are won or lost. Easy 3–5 Qs MK Pandey, RS Aggarwal
2 Blood RelationsStraightforward once you build the diagram habit. Draw every question. Easy 2–4 Qs RS Aggarwal, MK Pandey
3 Coding-Decoding & SeriesNumber / Letter SeriesCoding-decoding not asked in numbers. Sequence & Series is highly important — prioritise this within the topic. Easy 2–4 Qs RS Aggarwal Verbal & Non-Verbal
4 Puzzle TestComplex ArrangementsApprox 2 complex puzzle questions per paper. High time cost — attempt only if seating arrangements are already solid. Easy–Moderate 3–8 Qs MK Pandey, Mock Tests
5 Direction & Distance TestImportant topic. Always draw the path. Never solve directionally in your head. Easy 2–3 Qs RS Aggarwal
6 Analogy & ClassificationOdd One OutBoth numeric and word analogy appear. Quick marks — don't skip. Easy 2–3 Qs RS Aggarwal
7 SyllogismStatement & ConclusionMost important and highest-scoring LR topic. Master the Venn diagram method — it eliminates guessing entirely. Easy 3–4 Qs MK Pandey, PYQs
8 Critical ReasoningStatement & AssumptionStrengthening/weakening, inference, assumptions, parallel reasoning. GMAT CR Guide is excellent for nuanced question types. Doable 3–4 Qs MK Pandey, GMAT CR Guide
9 Assertion & ReasonInferenceRare and low weightage. Don't over-prepare. One chapter + PYQs is enough. Easy 2–3 Qs MK Pandey, CLAT PYQs
10 Data InterpretationTables, ChartsRare and low weightage. Time-consuming. Attempt only if other topics are already at full accuracy. Difficult 2–3 Qs RS Aggarwal DI, Mock Tests

Seating Arrangements + Syllogism = the LR section won
These two topics together carry the highest and most reliable marks in Logical Reasoning across every exam Soham took. Master them first with MK Pandey, then build everything else around them. Data Interpretation and Assertion-Reason are the last topics to touch — not the first.
Soham's Mock Test Strategy
~68 mocks across 4 exams — here is exactly how he approached them
When to start
Right from the beginning
Don't wait until you feel "ready." Start full-length mocks from day one. Maintain a dedicated Analysis Notebook — every mock produces entries, not just a score.
Total mocks taken
~68 mocks across 4 exams
NLSAT: 25  ·  MHCET: 30  ·  NLU-O: 10  ·  IIT KGP: 3
Analysis time per mock
2.5–3 hours per mock
NLSAT: 3 hours. MHCET: 2.5 hours. The analysis session is longer than the mock — that's where improvement actually happens.
Sectional vs. full-length
Both — for different purposes
Sectional for subject clarity and weak-area work. Full-length for simulation, time management, and stamina. Both are non-negotiable.
Exam-day simulation
Always at NLSAT's timing — 150 minutes
Every mock was taken at the same time slot as the actual NLSAT. Your brain and body adapt to a rhythm — simulate from the start, not just in the final week. Training to NLSAT's 150-minute standard makes every other exam feel shorter.
