What is a CLAT Exam Center?
The basics before anything else
A CLAT exam center is an officially designated venue (typically a school or college) where the Consortium of National Law Universities conducts the CLAT exam in offline, pen-and-paper mode.
You do not pick the exact building. You choose a preferred city during registration. The Consortium assigns you a specific venue within that city, and the exact address appears only on your CLAT admit card 2027, expected in the third week of November 2026.

Four separate times. All four are hard boundaries.

The gate closes at 2:15 PM with no exceptions. Plan to reach by 12:45 PM at the latest. Trains get delayed. Auto drivers get lost. This is not caution — it is strategy.
How to Select Your CLAT Exam Center 2027
Step-by-step during the application process

Go to the official CLAT website
Visit consortiumofnlus.ac.in and click "Apply" or "New Registration".

Complete your basic registration
Provide your name, mobile number, email and create your login credentials.

Log in and go to the Preferences tab
From the application dashboard, click the "Preferences" tab.

Select 3 exam cities in order of priority
First preference = highest priority. Do not choose all three in metro cities.

Save and submit the form
Click "Save and Continue", agree to the declaration, and submit. Registration closes October 31, 2026.
How to Change Your CLAT Exam Center 2027
Only possible during the correction window, not after admit card

Log in to your CLAT account
Visit consortiumofnlus.ac.in and sign in.

Click "Edit Application"
This opens your submitted form for editing within the permitted window.

Go to Preferences tab and update
Replace Vellore or Tiruvarur immediately if you selected either.

Submit the updated form
Agree to the declaration and click Submit. Deadline: October 31, 2026.
Once the admit card is released, no center change is possible under any circumstances.

CLAT Admit Card 2027: printed copy (colour or B&W). Paste a passport photo if the printed one is unclear.

How to Choose the Right CLAT Center: Strategy, Not Guesswork

Mistake 1Choosing all 3 preferences in metro cities
High-demand cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune fill up fast. If all 3 are full, the Consortium assigns you wherever capacity exists, which may be far from home. Keep at least one preference as a nearby tier-2 city.
Mistake 2Choosing a city you have never been to
On December 6 you will wake up, travel to an unfamiliar city, find an unfamiliar center, and write an exam, all while managing stress. Choose cities you can navigate comfortably.
Mistake 3Not applying early
Allotment depends on availability. Early applicants have better chances of getting their first preference. Applications close October 31, 2026. Apply this week.
Mistake 4Not visiting the center before exam day
Once your admit card is out in November, look up the exact address. If the center is in an unfamiliar area, visit a day before. Know the gate, route, and transport situation. This step reduces anxiety dramatically.
The smart three-preference formula:

Special Rules for PwD / SAP Candidates
Extra time at all CLAT 2027 exam centers
PwD/SAP candidates receive an additional 40 minutes (20 minutes per hour), regardless of scribe usage. This applies at all centers across India. Carry your valid disability certificate along with your admit card.
